How did we setup One Time Password (OTP) gateway for phone verification using Bulk SMS Gateway?
General purpose bulk sms gateways are not suitable for critical use cases such as sending otp sms ( one time password ).
We therefore decided to build in-house algorithms to fine tune message handling. We wanted to ensure every OTP sent via 2Factor platform gets routed with least latency carrier & provides highest delivery rates.
To provide optimal results, we focused on,
- Direct Connectivity With TIER-1 Telcos: for fastest delivery
- SMS Fallback Handling: for higher delivery rates
Thanks to our in-house built algorithms, which ensure consistent 2-6 seconds average delivery time for OTP messages.
Fail-over handling logic in place, ensures re-routing of failed message via stand-by carries. This minimizes impact of operator level delivery delivery issues and offers greater redundancy.
Does 2Factor charge for failed sms otps?
No, You are not charged for failed OTPs.
2Factor is the only bulk sms otp service provider in India, who offers SLA based pricing. Our SLA for critical sms otp and voice OTP services is,
- SMS OTP: We charge customers only if,
- SMS OTP is delivered ( Pay per delivered OTP )
- SMS OTP is delivered within 15 seconds
- SMS OTP is delivered without the help of fallback / fail-over logic
If SMS OTP could not be delivered within 15 seconds ( for what so ever reasons ) we not only refund the OTP credit in real-time, but also try to deliver OTP via backup carrier ( SMS Channel ) for free of cost

2Factor offers sms otp integration with third party applications via simple HTTP SMS OTP APIs.
